dishevelled visitor (a moth of unknown variety)
This moth flew into the house last night, and this morning was attempting to escape. When trying to fly through a window it creates an alarmingly loud, almost rasping noise. It is a little more than an inch long. I coaxed it onto a piece of light grey mounting board (which also illuminated its underside) for this photo and then liberated it.
Its wing colours apart from the orange patch are dark, almost black; I have manipulated them to bring out the detail.
