The final day of school!

We have been on a rollercoaster of emotions in the past 24 hours. Last night we were blown away by Adam's performance at the Leaver's Concert. The music director of the school described his performance as exquisite and it was exactly that...played with great maturity, musicality and sensitivity, it was quite sublime. Adam said for the first time ever, he felt his performance went exactly as he wished it would, it was quite flawless - what a good way to end his school musical career, on such a high note (no pun intended!).

This morning we were up early to attend the final chapel service of the year, where Adam sang for the very last time in the Chapel Choir. I felt quite emotional as the last line of the school hymn was sung, knowing how sad Adam would be feeling to be leaving. Then on to Prize Giving, where Adam received prizes for both Biology and Best Instrumentalist - see in my extra photo.

The weather was glorious, sunny and warm but not too hot and it was very pleasant picnicking in the grounds and chatting to other parents and friends. After lunch this was followed by the Symphony Orchestra performing a selection of film music (Lord of the Rings etc.) and then the senior Jazz Band played in the marquee. Thomas was very sad to be playing in the orchestra with Adam for the very last time.

Four boys from the choir (Adam being one of them) have formed a barber shop group that has performed at a few events this term, some of which they have even been remunerated for. Today they performed in between the jazz numbers and this had to be my blip today as Adam has come such a far way from the boy who did not want to sing and was very shy in front of an audience. He now loves singing and stood up there in front of all the parents and governors and enjoyed himself singing God Only Knows, Lollipop and a few others.

It has been a wonderful end to his school career and we are all feeling a little sad that this era of his life is now over. Poor Thomas is feeling utterly miserable that he will no longer have Adam to share these experiences with at school next year, and we have all been a bit tearful.
