Stanage Edge
Arrived in the Peak District late yesterday afternoon with friend and fellow blipper Matthew Lynes. Time for a quick wash and change before meeting friends, Ian and June, for dinner at The Rising Sun Hotel in Thornhill Moor. Lovely dinner and great to catch up with them.
Today started with a little light drizzle and mist which cleared before we left for Padley Gorge and soon turned into a warm and sunny day. The gorge has some lovely waterfalls as it heads down towards Grindleford. The water is a deep orangey/brown colour. The orange colour is caused by the sun hitting peat at the bottom of the gorge. (See Matthew's photo).
In the afternoon we headed over to Stanage Edge, a vast gritstone edge that overlooks the village of Hathersage and runs for approximately four miles. Although warm up here (we only needed a t-shirt), it was pretty breezy and made taking photos quite challenging! This view was taken from the top of the southern side of Stanage Edge looking over towards Higger Tor and Padley.
A pub dinner and then back to the apartment. After a long day it's now time for bed!
