Lightning

Something as simple and common as static electricity wields enormous power under the right conditions.  A joint in the cabling connecting lightning rods that once protected a telescope enclosure at Kitt Peak.  Notice that a piece of indigenous stone has been fused to the copper connector as the result of a lightning strike.
