Marmalade Fly

This might be our commonest British hoverfly, but it is still a delight to see. The flower beds in my garden were full of hoverflies and bees today, but not one butterfly seen all day. Although we are seeing reasonable numbers of butterflies at special sites, I get the feeling that numbers are generally down in the wider countryside this year - very worrying!
