A grand tour ..
Today Franziska (who had arranged the whole event, and had originally come across Gertude's records in the music school archives, while researching her PhD) took us on a tour 'in the footsteps of Gertrude ..'
We ended the tour at the museum of musical instruments. Here's a rather magnificently decorated case for a small cello, dating from c1720.
We got to the very busy airport incredibly early. The plane was delayed. Eventually we boarded, but the weather was shocking, and we were kept waiting on the runway until the worst of the thunderstorm was over. We took off just before midnight and were buffeted all the way back to Gatwick - yuk.
Because of the delay, although there were trains to London I had to change to a bus at Clapham Junction to get to my lodgings, so I didn't get to bed until 2.30 am - and needed to get up early to get away before the traffic wardens came around ...
