Sunshine & beer

A visit to Bavaria in the summer months would not be complete without a Biergarten experience - weather permitting natürlich.

Thursday was a public holiday - a religious one (something to do with the Holy Ghost entering heaven, but either a bit got lost in translation or my religious knowledge is as poor as I thought, so I can't be too precise).

So with the weather looking good, we headed off for Weltenburg - about 45 minutes by car downstream on the Donau. It's an abbey with a brewery - the oldest in the world, dating from 1050.

Spectacular location on the river, excellent food and really good beer.
