Car Boot Day Today!
This is another one of those strange British customs - the Car Boot Sale - not sure if such a weekly event happens in any other parts of Europe / the World? Anyway its a wonderful way for the organisers (this one is Chelford Car Boot) to make lots of money out of charging us all at least £10 to park on their field. We turn up with lots of things we don't want any more but which have previously cost us a small fortune and then we proceed to sell these items for next to nothing! There appears to be two schools of thought - some people put prices on things and stick to their guns and, if they are lucky, they might sell something to someone for the advertised price. These people are in the minority. The rest of us just don't want to take the stuff home so we let expensive items go for a few £'s if we are lucky. But it's great fun if the weather holds. Another strange custom is that the moment you arrive a swarm of locusts descend upon your parked car and try to buy anything of value for next to nothing! This can be a bit distracting when you are trying to set things up. It's not so bad in the summer time - at least you can see them but it can scare the life out of you in the winter time when they come at you out of the pitch black - shining their torches in your car. Oh, didn't I tell you that another strange custom is that car boots are traditionally held on Sunday mornings commencing as early as 7.00am! Today wasn't too bad - we got there around 8.00 and left around 12.00 and did rather well.
PS - the cute dolls belonged to the mother of a lady next to us and her mum had recently passed away so she was trying to do a house clearance. She managed sell the boy doll but not the girl!
