Two views of a beetle
Bloody-nosed beetle, Timarcha tenebricosa, so-called because it exudes a scarlet fluid from its head as a defence mechanism. It's flightless and measures about 2cm in length.
I rather like the fragments of debris it has collected on its carapace in the first image and the hooked feet in the second.
The subject for Mono-Monday today was Autumn but there's nothing autumnal about this apart from the weather today: cool, damp, cloudy and windy.Come back summer!
