Lock gates at Fort Augustus
Pretty wet day but clearing later.
We travelled with our two grandchildren up to Kirkhill near Inverness to visit our 'adopted' granddaughter for a few days. We took the scenic route via Fort Augustus and stopped to see the lock ladder on the Caledonian Canal. This is a series of 5 locks which take boats down to Loch Ness. We only saw four boats leaving the upper lock to travel south down the Canal but on previous visits, Eleanor and I have seen boats travel down through all the locks.
We travelled north from here along Loch Ness but did not catch sight of Nessie - the grandchildren displayed un Scottish tendencies by not believing there was such a monster lurking in the depths. As for me, how else can you explain the lack of two legged Haggis running around near the shore line of the Loch. Everyone knows that Haggis is Nessie's favourite food and as soon as one appears it is quickly gobbled up!
