Almost there . . .
Back blip
Tomorrow is our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary and we celebrated by returning to Crail Kirk with Mum, Dd's brother and our best man Jamie and his wife Therese. The first hymn today - Praise My Soul, The King of Heaven - was one of our wedding hymns and we also had a small mention in the prayers. The sun shone as it had all those years ago when a much more youthful version of ourselves stood on this very spot before walking up the aisle past our assembled guests.
We had champagne and sandwiches for lunch in the Rusacks Hotel, St. Andrews where we held our reception and reminisced about that day as well as toasting the memory of the many family and guests who have passed away in the intervening years.
Later in the evening in the Golf Tavern, Crail, with just the four of us present, Jamie and Therese told us they were going to have a private conversation which we could stay and listen to but not intervene. They then, as if we weren't there, reviewed the whole of the past quarter of a century of our lives leaving not a single country unvisited or event unmarked. They were kind and complimentary and it was all very touching. It suddenly made our journey not a blink of the eye, as it so often seems, but one of many challenging, adventurous and always wonderful steps.
