Never Happier!
We're never happier than when we're on a Calmac ferry heading to a Scottish Island, especially if that island is Arran! So today, in the early evening of our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, we boarded MV Isle of Arran and set sail. There's nowhere in the world where I feel more deeply rooted than here and that, in part, is due to many pre-nuptial visits with Dd including the time we chose our wedding hymns in the Pier Cafe at the end of Lamlash pier on a cold March day.
It has rained all the way across Scotland from Crail today but the sun broke through as we descended the Haily Brae into Largs. Our trip to Arran wasn't planned but we saw the glint of the sea, the distant peak of Goatfell and nipped along the coast to see if we could still catch a boat. New, later sailings came to our aid and we quickly searched the web for a place to stay which we finalised by phone as we clattered over the ramp onto the ferry's car deck. Spontaneity has always played a big part in our marriage since we first met in a theatre improvisation workshop. It's not surprising that we chose to be together and that we have ended up doing the things we have done. Long may it continue with us at each other's side . . . never happier.
