Abergynolwyn
The northern terminus of the Talyllyn Railway is at Abergynolwyn, although services run up the line a little further to Nant Gwernol before returning to Abergynolwyn, where there is a tea-room, gift shop, toilets and a children's outdoor play area.
The railway was established originally to serve the slate quarry at Bryn Eglwys above the village and many of the quarry-workers lived in Abergynolwyn. Some of the quarrymen's houses still exist (see picture) although much renovated since the slate quarry was in its heyday.
