Mountain

If I ever have to convey the meaning of 'mountain' to a non-English speaker, I would use a photograph of Goatfell, above, which overlooks Brodick Bay on the island of Arran in Scotland.    It was not only the first mountain I ever saw but perfectly captures what a mountain is, far better than anything in the Alps or Himalayas.    This is the view from our guest house which three generations of my family have used from time to time.    It is traditional in every way and far better than the stuffy, boutiquey Douglas Hotel we moved from after one night.    Off to walk round to the castle which you can see in frame.
