The Lodge
Imaginatively named , this house used to be the gatehouse to the main Stafffield Hall in Victorian Times. The drive is nearly half a mile long and it had (now its a house) a laundry half way up and a productive walled garden, orchard and hot houses. There were parlour maids, cooks, cleaners, stable staff, a butler and a housekeeper. Also the Nanny who lived to a ripe old age of nearly 100 years and only recently died. She lived in a tied cottage at Staffield all of her life. There were also twelve gardeners. What a life the other half led (lead) eh?
