Bird's nest orchid.

This morning cycled to Lochwinnoch to volunteer. The different areas of the garden are looking good. The plants are growing well and spreading out and some in flower. The barrel in the middle in the picnic area is a bright display of poached egg plants which the bees are enjoying.

The excitement today was the discovery of a strange looking orchid. Now there are only 4 sites of it in Scotland as it prefers chalk. It lacks chlorophyll, so is very pale and fragile. It is called Bird's nest because of its extensive root system producing a few spikes.
