Pals
Rocky was born on the 24th March 2008, and Arlo on 2nd May 2008. The dog has adored him since day one, and to be honest the whole reason for getting a dog at that time was to make sure they grew up together.
However, my daughter and son-in-law are not dog lovers (and lots of people are not, I know). I think their unspoken nervousness has transmitted itself to the kids, and when Arlo was tiny, he used to scream and cry whenever the poor wee mutt went anywhere near him.
It's so nice now to see them together; whenever Arlo leaves a room he says "Come on Rocky", and his Hairiness trots after him. Also, the poor creature puts on weight every time they come, because he asks every hour or so, if he can give the dog a biscuit.
After an unsettled sleep, and an early morning, both kids were knackered today. The lousy weather meant we couldn't do the stuff I had hoped (picnic and adventures), so we lurked around doing 'crafty stuff', they both had long baths with every Moshi monster they possess in with them,, and then we watched a little bit of telly.
Eventually there was a small window of opportunity to get out without being driven into the ground by the force of the rain, so we took it. Nipped to Tesco for a bit of shopping, and then popped into Huntingtower Castle for 20 minutes on the way home.
Arlo settled on the sofa with a DVD and Rocky, while Ida played with a CBeebies App (get me!) on the Hudl while I cooked tea. G arrived home, drookit, stinking of woodsmoke, and carrying many bags of wet, smelly food and clothes. Not to mention a saturated tent which will need to be pegged out to dry at some point.
One more day with me, and then I have to take them home. I should have been off on Tuesday as well, which would have given me the opportunity to keep them for another night but I have to go to work now.
Och well, I'm babysitting again on Friday, not too long to wait.
PS - the multi-coloured throws on the sofa are the remnants of a 'Den' they built to watch telly in when it was raining!
