2015 Saturday -- Rock to Pier Run

We knew the tide was going to be low early this morning so we packed-up the pooches and headed toward the pier to walk on the sand and do a little looking in the tide pools.

What we did not know was that this morning was also the “Rock to the Pier Run.” So we figured we’d be coming to a fairly unpopulated beach and instead found lots of excited people who were finishing their run or walk. As soon as they arrived at the pier they were finished and many of them were being met by friends or they were boarding the bus to take them back to their cars over at the Morro Rock area in the community of Morro Bay.

So we slipped under the pier to the north where there were no people and strolled over to that side of the cove to look at the tide pools. When we finished looking at little sea snails, sea urchins, and little pincher crabs, we started our walk south and strolled all the way to what we refer to as “the barn house” -- which is almost directly in line with our house as we look up three blocks from the shore to the hill below Hwy 1. There we turned around and walked back to the pier area and to our car and then back to the house.

Most of the time these days, we do not walk to the beach from the house because it wearies the pups and then they are too tired to walk on the sand. So we just begin by leaving the house with all five of us in the car.

Then this evening, after a lovely bright summer day, we went to the south beach to walk the shore during the evening low tide which also aligned with sunset. The evening on the beach was spectacular. I did get lots of wonderful photos, but this photo reveals four of my favorites!
