Thunderbirds

This is the weekend of the big water & air show at the Lakefront. Last year I was all set to get some (what I hoped would be) good pictures of some of the planes, but the entire event was cancelled because the Lakefront was socked in with fog the whole weekend....the planes couldn't even take off!
Not this year! It dawned bright & sunny & by late morning we could hear & see some of the planes that were in the show as they passed over our house. The U.S. AirForce Thunderbirds were the finale of the show, so Tom & I headed over to the airport about 3:00 & sat up on the hill (along with lots of other people who had the same great idea) to see if we could get a glimpse of them as they took off-- it all depended on which way the wind was coming as to which runway they'd use--& did we luck out!
Four of them taking off all together & they went almost directly over our heads! You could actually feel the rumble & vibration of the engines as they flew over! This is right out of the camera--no crop or adjustment--talk about exciting!
As soon as they were past us we headed to the Lakefront where I took the 3 pictures that are in the extras. Besides the planes there were all kinds of sailboats, speed boats, jet ski's etc. in the water as well. I'm thinking if the weather is equally nice tomorrow we may take the motorcycle down closer to the show area to try to catch sight of the U.S. Army Golden Knights----parachuting team----can't see them from where we were today, as we were too far from the drop zone!  :))
