San Francisco - Fisherman's Wharf
We flew from Heathrow Airport at 11.30am and landed in San Francisco 11 hours later, but due to slow queues at the airport and then again at Avis car hire we only got to our hotel at 5.30pm local time, which was actual 30 minutes past midnight UK time. The car we got is huge by UK standards, although it seems pretty normal for around here. We dumped our bags and went down to Fisherman's Wharf to wander around and find a place for supper.
Fisherman's Wharf was not what I expected - it was over crowded, a bit tacky and full of horrible tourist shops and tourist restaurants. There was a cold wind blowing that was not pleasant, it was fresher than we thought it would be. A few of the restaurants we tried were full, and eventually we found a place that served a reasonable meal. The boys cannot have any alcohol as they are under 21, whereas in the UK one can have alcohol from the age of 18. This is the view through the window from the restaurant.
It has been a very long day and we are all feeling very tired. Being a daytime flight most of us were unable to sleep at all on the flight across here. I watched one movie, Suite Francaise, and then read an entire book. Off to bed now and hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
