The 'little fella'

For as long as I can remember, we've referred to Dan as "the little fella". However, his mum is originally from Cape Town and the Dutch genes run strong in her family; at 5' 11", she's one of the shorter people amongst her relatives.

Even though Dan's not quite thirteen, he's already nearly as tall as me. Those blue converse boots in the photo belonged to me (size 10) but were a bit tight, so now Dan (size 8) wears them quite comfortably. 

Today we had a hug and I realised that soon he's going to be taller than me. So I bent my knees and we had a little practice hug. God, it's going to be weird when I'm the little fella.
