Times Of My Life

By CarolB

Ooh, I did enjoy my day off from blipping yesterday!  Felt like I had been really rebellious, and kicked over the traces.

It's been another horrible day here - cold (11c for goodness sake, in July?) and wet.  To be fair, it wasn't raining constantly the whole day, but it switched regularly between drizzle, steady downpour and torrential.

Yesterday was worse, so much so that I went to TKMaxx and bought a new warm jacket for walking the dog - and was pleased because it had a really well-fitted hood!  Surely some mistake?  Isn't this the season for buying light coloured deconstructed linen jackets, to wear over capri-pants and strappy sandals?

I tried to stop being so negative when my tallest nephew's girlfriend put a post on FB saying that they were both going to bypass Christmas Day this year, and volunteer at a shelter for the Homeless instead.  It really put it into perspective: so what if it's raining when you have a roof over your head?

Please verbally slap me if I mention the weather in a negative fashion again.

So; how lucky I feel that it is dark already, at only 10pm, and cool enough for me to have had an excuse to put the heating on for a bit.  And pour myself a G&T (on a Tuesday?  how daring!) before getting wired into my new book.

If you are female, and have not read any Marian Keyes yet, allow me to urge you - nay, implore you, to nip out and get some of her work tout suite.  Start with Watermelon, or the fabulous Last Chance Saloon.  Or Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married.  Or actually, any of her stuff (Last Chance is my absolute favourite though, and such a mixture of hilarity and pathos that I've read it about four times).  I always feel as if she is Maeve Binchy's younger, and funkier literary sister, and I love both of them.

I might write to her though, and ask if she could possibly make her next book incorporate a murderous biker gang and some walking dead guys - now that would be a really good read!
