Alcatraz

After the long journey yesterday we are closer to home today. A tram (street car) ride to pier 33 and a short ferry ride over to Alcatraz.

We were a little early so we had time for a coffee before joining the queue for the ferry. Places on the ferry are booked in advance for a specific sailing time. The journey out to the island takes just over 10 minutes.

We spent a couple of hours visiting the island and the prison facility. It does not look like a good place to have been imprisoned. I will have have to watch Clint Eastwood's file "Escape from Alcatraz" again.

On returning to the mainland we had a wander past Pier 39 before returning downtown on the tram.
