Motril, Granada
Staycation Day 2
Santuario de Nuestra Senora Virgen de la Cabeza, Motril.
Today we drove down the Coast towards Malaga about 80 kms to Motril which is on the Costa Tropical, Granada Province. As the name suggests this has it's own micro-climate and grows a range of fruit etc including the popular Chirimoya or Custard Apple ( a soft mushy fruit with pips which tastes as it is described). This is a busy fishing port, and Ferry port with the usual beaches and a large Town (or City) inland about 5 kms.
We did not go to the fishing port as it was late morning and all the catch would have been offloaded by then, so went instead to the Ferry Port. In the extra photos there is a Ferry in which had docked. By the time I got a bit nearer all the vehicles had offloaded. It is .a busy port with the Ferry going to Melilla. This is a Spanish City constructed by Spain on the coast of Morocco with the stated purpose to stop illegal immigration and smuggling. Lots of cars, waiting in line to load up.
Then we went up to the Town for something to eat and a look around. Very typical of large towns, it was clean and tidy with a nice boulevard. I managed to get a picture of the church (named above) which we passed on the way out and Al managed to park at the end of a bus stop so I could get out and get a picture. When you don't know a place it is difficult to know where to park!
Also in extras a stop off at a view point on the way home.
