A Bevy Of Butterflies

Jazzy dog and I went down the field after lunch looking for butterflies. We weren't disappointed. :)

Brimstones aplenty, so much easier to capture now that they're not on a mission for just one thing. I got some great shots of them on thistles which accentuates their pinky-mauve eyes, antennae and shoulders.

Speckled Woods were patrolling the hedge and my pet Comma was in place on the Black Bryony. Peacocks and Red Admirals were swarming all over the Buddleia. Gatekeepers and Meadow Browns fluttered along the edge of the meadow. Large, Small and Essex Skippers skipped amongst the long grass. Large Whites spiralled in pairs and settled on teasels. A blue flitted through but didn't settle. :(

I have chosen to post this lovely Small Copper. It alighted on the yellow flowers of fleabane a few times but seemed to prefer the seed heads of ox-eye daisies or grass. Very easy to spot its beautiful burnished copper wings catching the sunlight.
