mull #6

Yes! Another sunny day!

This time we were ready for it and set out early enough to catch the low tide that would allow us to cross over to Erraid, said to be the setting for Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Kidnapped’.

We drove out past Fionnphort and then walked down towards the shoreline. We were so mesmerised by the first beaches we came to (above) that we missed Erraid entirely. We walked over the glorious white sand, over rocks and grassy hills and settled on a patch of beach more stunning that I’ve ever seen before. What was more surprising was that it was completely empty. This was quite handy for us - we hadn’t even thought to bring swimwear but the crystal blue sea was too tempting and so we had to strip down to knickers and t-shirts to run wildly into the sea. I haven’t seen such blue sea outside of the Caribbean, and on a beautiful beach all to ourselves - dreamy.

We sat and read a bit to dry off and then paddled and wandered around the beaches some more. It’s so crazy that the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen in Britain were, for the most part, completely empty. It really was mesmerising to just wander around on our own private bit of Scottish shoreline.

We did eventually make the walk over to Erraid but didn't get too far as we came across a lot of mud and marsh and quite honestly, the excitement of the beaches had worn us out. Quick stop at the shop for some musketeer gifts and then home to copious tea and reading. Glorious.

(today was worthy of a few extra pics!)
