Into Christiania

Christiania is a self proclaimed autonomous neighborhood in Copenhagen.

The area was created in 1971 as a squat in a military area. It covers 34 hectares. Civic authorities regard the area as a large commune, the area however is regulated by a special law, the Christiania Law of 1989 which actually transfers parts of the supervision from the municipality of Copenhagen.

I'm not going to write a huge amount about this place. It is an amazing and undoubtedly important place to visit and stroll around.

The photo is of a graffiti Christiania Bike. These are now commonplace around Copenhagen but were originally introduced as a form of moving items around with cars being banned

There are rules, one of the key ones being not to take photos on Pusherstreet. This we abided by, photos taken were around the periphery of the area.
