A wild hydrangea

Visiting the mountains of Western North Carolina, I found several bushes with these flowers. I was told they are wild hydrangeas.  

The purpose of the visit was to hike to a waterfall which my hiking group did today. About 3 + miles uphill over rocks and roots then back down.  The scenery was gorgeous along the river!   Needless to say I was bringing up the rear as I had to stop and take photos (and catch my breath!) but we completed the hike in 5 hours...my feet hurt and I need some wine!
