The Harmonium Project

My festival-going proper kicked off with a grim political comedy about the bleak realities of life in contemporary South Africa, set in a Soweto shack, complete with singing, gumboot dancing and performance poetry. It wasn't all that great, but it was enthusiastically delivered, and managed to cram almost every fringe stereotype into the one show.

Later, I stood in Festival Square with owl and 20,000 others, and watched the official opening of the Edinburgh International Festival. A series of images were projected onto the Usher Hall, while John Adams’ choral work Harmonium played. I thought it was quite awesome.

The building really did look like this - there was no faffing about in photoshop. Well, not much.
