Lisbon - nice little fixer upper?
Our last day in Lisbon, we shall be flying home this evening. We've really enjoyed Lisbon and I for one would love to come back and explore some more. While we have visited many of the top tourist sites, as recommended in the guide books, we have not even scratched the surface of this wonderful city.
Wandering around we happened upon a group of young Russians on their way up one of the many hills lugging their suitcases to the nearest main road. We recognised that they were Russian from the discussion about whether or not they were near the top and the road. If you are reading this Jess I hope that you will be pleased to know that I stopped to say hello to them in Russian.
Today's blip is a shot of one of the "development opportunities" that exist here. Its a style of building completely out of keeping with all the modern development all around it, and I expect a piece of Lisbon's cultural heritage that probably ought to be retained. The extra is a rather more usual view of Lisbon - you see this lovely yellow colour everywhere on the buildings.
It is warm here to day at 36C, but then I understand that most of Europe is having a warm day. Unusually for Lisbon there is not a breath of wind at the moment. We have been pottering gently in the heat, sticking to the shade and generally taking it easy. Today sees the finish of the 10 day Volta - cycling's Tour of Portugal. It features several circuits of the city centre this afternoon, so we shall be able to join the crowds to watch that. In this heat I'm rather pleased that I'm not on a bike, let alone racing others!
Back to work on Monday :-(
