The evening was cold, colder than it should be for July; the rain was bouncing off the street in a way that was more typical of late January. 

Don't start a story with the weather, it makes people switch off immediately.

Weird weather attracts people I think.  

Today it was supposed to be raining.  Not raining.  Cloudy, warm, occasional outbreaks of sunshine. 

Weird. 

I can't fathom it at all. 

Nope I can't. 

And I think that is why the bee's and butterflies are confused about the flower availability.
