Ben Mor Coigach and the Little Pier at Ardmair
We made the short drive to Bridge House Art to have Apothecary7 there just before 9am for the first day of her Summer School course "Horizons". Apothecary7 went in to get her favourite corner in the studio and I went along for company as we could see no one else had arrived. It wasn't long before Eleanor the tutor (her house adjoins the studio) appeared and we had a blether and a catch up not having managed to see her when we were in Ullapool last year. We all went outside so Eleanor could meet Maeve the Deerhound. When other students started to arrive Eleanor and Apothecary7 went back into the studio and Maeve and I set off for Ardmair.
When we got to Ardmair and parked I noticed that there was a rainbow out to sea, so I quickly took a few pictures. Maeve and I had a wander along the pebble beach, then had a walk though the caravan park and round to the pier which is the best vantage point for a view of Ben Mor Coigach. When we got back to the car I got out my sketchbook and some coloured pencils, had a seat on one of the benches and made a sketch of the mountain. Maeve lay down in the grass (her lead safely round and arm of the bench).
Late morning we went back to Ullapool and had a walk along Shore Road and back through the town. Then I had to go to Bridge House Art so I could get the house key which Apothecary7 had forgotten to give me after locking the house this morning and I had forgotten to ask her for. I met the young lady Eleanor has in as her assistant during courses (her specialism is printing) and she told me all the painters were out and about in town sketching. I got back in the car and went back into town and parked by our holiday house and Maeve and I walked down to the pier where I knew I would find Apothecary7. Key retrieved Maeve and I went back to the house and I had lunch.
In the afternoon Maeve and I went back to Ardmair. We had a walk round again, then went back to the car and I read my book for a while. We came back to the house about 4pm and just as we arrived the rain came on. Since I have been sitting writing the rain has become very heavy and we have had thunder and lightning. I will be going to collect Apothecary7 from Bridge House Art about 5pm. I expect the rest of the week will follow a similar pattern. Maeve and I will be going out to Ardmair, and perhaps to Rhue. I'm not sure if I want to venture further although I believe the painters might be heading to Achiltibuie for one or two of their days. The is a fabulous horizon there with a good view to Tanera Mor ... might be just the very thing to fit their theme :-)
Extras: Ben Mor Coigach, Rainbow at Ardmair, Ardmair Beachcombing I, Ardmair Beachcombing II, Seaweed, cruise ship in Loch Broom, Freya.
