Goodbye to Yosemite
Sadly we packed up and left Yosemite after breakfast, heading back to San Francisco for our long flight home to London. It was another gorgeous day, 30C and sunny and bright. I took this shot of the Gates of the Yosemite Valley, with El Capitan on the left and Cathedral rocks and Bridalveil falls on the right, and it just had to be in mono in homage to Ansel Adams, the great photographer who immortalised Yosemite. The river is very low so there is much debris in the foreground, and there are notices that photographers are not to move anything, although I was itching to move some twigs and logs out of the way!
Leaving Yosemite National Park we we struck by how dry the landscape is, with some hillsides covered in dead trees. The 10 year drought can most definitely be noticed and it is worrying for the local people.
As we came into San Francisco the temperature dropped by 10 degrees and we were greeted with that perennial fog. We drove towards Fort Mason to get a view of the bridge, as can be seen in an extra shot. I wonder how many days of the year that view is actually clear and fog free?
So it is our last night in San Francisco before we depart for London tomorrow afternoon. We have just enjoyed a delicious dinner, Alaskan Halibut was my choice and it was very tasty. We have wonderful accommodation of a 2 bedroomed apartment and the boys are enjoying having more space. I have already paid a visit to the Ghirardelli chocolate shop to buy some chocolate to take home, and we are all packed and ready for our trip back home.
