Little Apple
The little apple of the chaparral is no shrinking violet. Supremely adapted to life in some of the harshest conditions found in the middle lattitudes, the manzanita (Spanish for "little apple") shows off its beautiful brick-red bark under a protective layer of dead wood on a very old stem.
