Frosted

Now crystalline, the tiny spines of an expired sunflower frost its stem and head.  As water levels in the canals rise and fall, all sorts of interesting plants sprout, fruit, and die.  This particular sunflower really struggled throughout its short life, but managed to set seeds before it was gone.
