midwife crisis

lilies on flood water

Full on but very productive day in the hospital. I spent the afternoon facilitating obstetric emergency drills for the midwives and doctors, which was very satisfying and funny. We designed a pair of pajamas with a velcro vagina (can I say that on blip in a professional capacity)?!!! which has red silky material coming out to mimmick a major haemorrhage and a blue loop of rope to mimmick a prolapsed umbilical cord!!! It worked extremely well (after the giggling).
Monsoon season seems to have come to Cork and we had another day of heavy rain. Driving home the rivers were swollen and some had burst their banks, but it did ease off, which makes driving down the winding little lanes much safer.
I stopped at the lake in Dunmanway and captured a few lilies in a very wintery light. Ireland is not renown for it's gorgeous summers (or footballing skills). Ireland 0 v Spain 4. But lots of singing. Lots! The entire duration of the match. The more Spain scored the louder the Irish fans sang The fields of Athanry. Every self respecting Irish family knows how to belt a few oldies with pride and passion after a few pints!
