red eye special

That term used to be used of airline flights that flew past midnight, delivering their passengers with red eyes due to lack of sleep. And, by the way, those flights used to be cheap and therefore "special." No such thing any more!
But I got up with "red eyes" this morning because I got up at 1:30 am to see the Perseids meteor shower last night. Unfortunately, it was a bit overcast and the haze captured all the city light, so I could not see a single shooting star.
This is a Spotted Towhee, and it always has red eyes!
