Full of milk
I was up at the cowshed this afternoon when some new calves and their mums came in. The mums go into the colostrum mob, and the calves into the shed to be taught to suck. The cows udders are so tight once they have calved - it must be a relief to be milked.
Son C's cow started calving this morning, and by lunchtime had made no progress, so Farmerboy and the boys had to calve her. Last year C had chosen to inseminate her with an Ayrshire, so it was sad when Farmerboy delivered a dead calf. It was a lovely white coloured calf with brown tips on its ears. Now he has to wait another year to try again. :-(
We put some young heifer calves in the paddock this morning. You should have seen them run; jumping around and flying through the air. It's a pity I didn't have my camera - would have made for some great photography.
