Breakfast off the pavement

An unusual sight indeed at 7 am to see a man
with bacon and eggs sizzling away in the pan
on the pavement below on Scarborough's
Foreshore Road. Had he travelled overnight
and where was he journeying to? The answer,
prefaced with an offer to join him for
breakfast, was that he was "Dinger" Bell,
and was here with his packed bag ready to
offer his services as crew on one of the yachts
in the Harbour which would be going off for
the day. He told me he was well known there
and the names he mentioned left me in no
doubt. Nor was I in any doubt that he would be quite a jolly sailor if the liquid refreshment
he took with his bacon was any guide!
