Our Hotel was in Aurora rather than Denver proper, having been chosen for it's proximity to the airport, but we walked down to the Rapid Transit terminal and spent a surprisingly pleasant hour in the sun waiting for a bus to Downtown. Once there we made extensive use of the free bus service that runs up and down the 16th Street Mall - a very useful resource on a day when our map-reading ability proved somewhat battered by our travel-weariness. We went down to the Millennium Bridge by Union Station, wandered through a park full of stoners and came across the very fine Tattered Cover Bookstore. Later on we climbed the steps of the Capitol Building to have our photos taken by the plaque that marks a mile above sea level and then took a tour of Victorian philanthropist Molly Brown's restored townhouse, where we enjoyed our first experience of the American concept of 'old' (or "Real Old" for the truly ancient stuff) - we managed not to mention to the massively enthusiastic tour guide that Molly B.'s place was only two years older than our house for fear of drawing attention to ourselves...
