J Class 'Lionheart'
The J Class had its roots in the oldest sporting race in the world The America's Cup.
Lionheart was built to the lines originally drawn by Starling & Burgess and Olin Stephens for Harold Vanderbilt's 'Ranger' syndicate who successfully defended the cup in 1930.
Ranger was scrapped in 1941 but was reborn in the form of an all aluminium replica in summer 2010.
Seen here preparing to depart her overnight anchorage at Lochranza, Arran. She is a massive 43.4m (142 ft) with 17m (56 ft) overhang.
