in Flanders Fields 2. there’ll be blue birds over

We stood on the ramparts of Dover Castle today looking out at the coast of France and wondering. We weren’t the only ones.  The subject of my extra photo also stood here.  His likeness still does.

In 1940 my Dad was on a beach at Dunkirk, probably wondering if he’d ever see these cliffs again. The man responsible for getting him home was Admiral Sir Bertram Home Ramsay.  The statue was erected in 2000 in recognition of the part he played in both the evacuation of Dunkirk and the D-Day landings.
