Wanderings & Witterings

Time for tea?

Our Tuesday walk with Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Ramblers was a linear walk from Kirkintilloch to Clachan of Campsie, most of which was along the Strathkelvin Railway Path. It was a bright, sunny day and a good time was had by all, certainly judging by the chatter going on.

In truth, we stopped a few hundred metres short of Clachan of Campsie as there was a bus due for Kirkintilloch in five minutes and, faced with the choice of catching that one or waiting 30 minutes for the next one, it was a unanimous decision to return to Kirkintilloch for our post-walk coffee.

Suitably fortified and, given that it was still early afternoon and the sun was still shining, I decided to take another short walk along the Canal - firstly westwards for a few hundred meters along to Southbank Marina and then back towards Hillhead Bridge, where I came across this unusual sculpture. It is one of several sculptures along this part of the Canal celebrating Kirkintilloch's industrial past; this particular post adorned with designs by local primary school children.
