Blackstand , Black Isle

My Mum and Dad arrived after a delayed flight of about 45 minutes and a rocky landing. It was lovely and sunny but blowy. I watched a lady struggling to read a newspaper and another person trying to hold on to a pile of cardboard with bits escaping and flying away.
We stopped at Munros for tea and cake and then took them to Cromarty. A nice self catering with great views of the harbour and the Cromarty Firth.

We drove back past Udale bay which was busy with more Canada geese and greylags. Lots of gulls, lapwings and ducks.
On the way back we drove down to Blackstand where a RAF airfield was based in World War II . It was a secret base intended to store 46 Beaufighters . There would be no control tower or windsocks. Gunpowder would be burnt in a stove so that pilots could judge the wind direction. It was nt an easy place to land being on a slope and cows and sheep had to be removed from the runway before a landing.
There's several buildings still standing including a wooden hut, the former Guard House and a possible toilet block.
