Here there and everywhere

Still a Safe Haven

I enjoyed this tranquil view this morning and thought I'd catch the light here.

We had a relatively quiet day: dealt with a potentially problematic guest in our Rio studio and ended up paying for an airport taxi they'd booked erroneously, even when we'd agreed with the driver that they could just pay half the fare! This couple are only staying for 2 nights and the time we've already given them takes away most of our little profit at this time of the year. Bb got my 'baja' (unfit for work) certificate from the doctor. I racked my brain to try and find a trainer to replace me for the course starting on Thursday and can honestly say I've done all I can.

I managed a few Scottish family things, remotely.

As if we haven't enough to deal with recently, when we were out for a breath of fresh air we got a call from our neighbours (on holiday abroad) whose burglar alarm had gone off and was showing an entry in their patio. This isn't that unusual because a bird, the wind, a fallen plant can start it off. We went to investigate and it all looked fine. Alarm bells started to go off, literally, when we got a call from our own alarm company saying ours had gone off and detected movement on our balcony. Mmmm. We went straight back to the house and called our alarm company from the street, expressing our concern at both alarms going off. Within 10 minutes, the police had arrived, not because of the alarms, but because another neighbour from a nearby flat had seen someone trying to climb up the front of one of the houses in our street! They must have got onto our balcony having accessed the adjoining houses, patios, roof terraces and balconies. All seemed fine, but by this time quite a few neighbours were out on the street. Of course, with my crutches and plaster, I was a few steps behind everyone else as they walked up and down and hummed and hawed. The police searched our house from top to bottom and used it to shine their lights into neighbouring properties. However, Bb and I then made sure the house was all alarmed, locked up securely and decanted to a hotel 5 mins along the road to get a good night's sleep!
