Notre Dame (Our Lady) Church, Carentan
Part of the West front (at left) is 11th century.
King Henry I of England - who was at the time fighting for control of Normandy - celebrated mass here on Easter Day 1106.
The church was badly damaged during the Hundred Years War, and much of what you see here is the result of its late 15th century restoration.
This massive church is never easy to photograph satisfactorily; a wide angle lens is essential.
