Brouage
Today Cathie, Marianne, Eve and I drove (2-3hrs) to Brouage. A very old important port until the marshlands overtook the sea! I had found it while searching the other night and thought it sounded intriguing.
It was a hit with everyone! :)
It was a lovely quiet touristy place. We spent a lot of time wandering along the streets, looking in the shops, walking along the walls and eating crepes and drinking coffee in the sun. :)
We then went on to Royan where we thought we'd meet up with the Burnsies and the Nixon's but they had just left before we got there!
We wandered along the pier by the marina, wandered along the beach, paddled briefly and wandered back again. The water had lots of tiny little sticks about an inch long and there was lots of black and silver sand as well as the normal yellow. The over all appearance of the water was black!
Cathie and I would have happily walked a lot further along the beach and taken time to explore the little market like stalls lining the streets and finding somewhere for dinner but Marianne and Eve were not coping with the place so we left and headed back 'home'.
We stopped in at Saujon in the hope of finding some place for dinner. It turned out to be quite a nice little place ..... And we found a nice pizza place to eat.....a safe place for Eve and Marianne! It was very nice.
Then just back home.
A good day out (except for the discovery that Marianne had the keys to Lou's car in her bag!! :/
