Sheeps Head Way
Stunningly lovely sunny day and we already had an afternoon hike planned with friends, so after a second lunch at Sheila's we left Ahakista and headed up onto part of the Sheepshead Way. What a wild remote and wonderful place it is. We followed the signs up on to the ridge and took in the double view of Dunmanus Bay and Bantry Bay either side if us, whilst battling against the strong winds. Noisy and exhilarating, but not sustainable, we had to drop down off the ridge to be able to hear each other speak!
Sheila had brought an energy bar along for each of us and we were so grateful, as she got a little carried away with the wonderful day and took us the long way round. 5 hours later we staggered home, utterly wrecked, dehydrated and ravenous. A group effort saw dinner slapped into the oven a mere 30 minutes later and by the time cups of tea and bottles of wines were under way we were recovering sufficiently to play silly games.
Rounded off the evening by gate crashing a birthday party at the Tin Pub at midnight. It was rocking, but everyone there was well ahead of us. When grandma staggered over to the mike for a rendition of something only vaguely recognizable, we decided bed was a good place to be.
Good day. Poor muscles.
