The Neglected Garden : astilbe

Yesterday I mentioned the astilbe, giant twin of a small, faltering plant in the cottage border.

You would be hard pressed to find poorer soil than this plant  tolerates in the neglected garden !  Miraculous.  And even with the encroaching self-seeded creatures invading from the adjacent field, the astilbe continues to surprise.,
