The lady in red

If you can see her, is enticing me into the mountain. Her long, flowing dress is concealing a tail and if she can capture and marry a man the said appendage will disappear. I offered my services, she had a think and then decided she was happy to put up with it for another year.

The stop at Kjosfossen is part of the Flam to Myrdal railway line which starts at 2m above sea level and rises to 867m in about an hour passing through spectacular scenery on the way. We went all the way to Myrdal (where you can connect to Oslo or Bergen) and then came back down halfway where we got off to pick up bikes for the final 11km back to Flam. The bikes were a little unnerving as the front and back brakes are reversed compared to their UK counterparts but I was determined not to go flying over the handlebars after sudden braking. It was pretty much downhill all the way and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos.

Back on board I took advantage of the unexpected sunshine and found somewhere to lie down for an hour or so. Flam, situated at the end of the longest fjord in Norway called Sognefjord, is a beautiful place and the blue sky was just a bonus.

There was an Italian theme at dinner this evening which went down very well. Moreover, silent and sometimes embarrassed husband offered a very dry interjection with great comic timing which set us all off. I don't think he said anything else for the rest of the meal.

After dinner we cruised into Naeroyfjord which is a stunning world heritage site with tall, sheer cliffs rising from the dark water at dusk. It's also pretty narrow so fair play to whoever was in charge as they spun the ship at one of its wider points when it was time to leave.

Trying to stay awake for the Buffet Magnifique this evening where you have to go through the motions of admiring and photographing food and ice sculptures before getting stuck in. Hopefully it will be worth it.
